Slack alerts

When your bot cannot answer and passes a visitor to your team, Techvea can post a message in a Slack channel straight away, as well as by email. It takes about five minutes and is free.

You make a small Slack app in your own workspace

There is no shared Techvea Slack app. You create an Incoming Webhook in your own Slack and give us its address. We only post messages to the one channel you choose, and we never see your Slack login or read your messages.

Step 1. Make the webhook in Slack

  1. Open api.slack.com/apps, sign in, and press Create New App and choose Blank app (older Slack screens call it “From scratch”), then Continue.
  2. Name it, for example “Techvea alerts”, and choose your workspace.
  3. In the left menu open Incoming Webhooks and switch it On.
  4. Press Add New Webhook to Workspace, choose the channel for alerts (for example #support) and press Allow.
  5. Copy the Webhook URL. It starts with https://hooks.slack.com/services/.

Keep the URL private

Anyone with it can post to that channel. Paste it only into your Techvea dashboard. If it leaks, delete the webhook in Slack and make a new one.

Step 2. Paste it into Techvea

  1. In your dashboard, open your bot and go to the Behavior tab.
  2. Find Slack webhook URL, paste the address, keep the Slack alert checkbox ticked and save.

What you will see

A message appears in the channel each time a visitor is handed to your team, with a short summary and a link to the ticket. Reply from the ticket inbox in your dashboard; Slack alerts are one way. To pause them without removing the URL, untick the checkbox.

No Slack? Email alerts are on by default, and you can also send each handoff to any address with a webhook.
