Connect Shopify orders and stock

With your store connected, the bot can answer “is this in stock?” from live Shopify data. It can also answer “where is my order?” if your store has an older Admin API access token (see the end of this page). A customer only sees an order when they give the order number and the email used at checkout; a wrong email gets nothing. This is separate from adding the chat widget to your store, which is covered in WordPress, Shopify, Webflow, Framer. Order and stock lookup is included from the Growth plan.

What works, and what does not

Product and stock lookup works with the Dev Dashboard app described below. Order status and tracking do not: Shopify does not let apps made in its Dev Dashboard read orders, even with the read_orders scope. Stores that already have an older Admin API access token (starting with shpat_) can paste it instead and get order status too. We would rather say this plainly than promise something Shopify blocks.

You make a small read-only app in your own Shopify

There is no shared Techvea Shopify app. You create a free app in your own Shopify account that can only read orders and products, and give us its Client ID and secret. We never change anything in your store.

Step 1. Create the app in the Dev Dashboard

  1. Open the Shopify Dev Dashboard with the same Shopify login that owns your store, and press Create app. In your store admin you can also get there from Settings, Apps, Develop apps, Build apps in Dev Dashboard.
  2. Name it, for example “Techvea Support Bot”.
  3. Open the app's version or configuration screen and set the Admin API access scopes to read_orders and read_products. Choose nothing else. Release that version.
  4. Press Install app and choose your store. If you add or change scopes later, release a new version and install the app again, so the store grants the new permissions.
  5. Open the app's Settings page and copy the Client ID and the Client secret.

Same organization, and keep the secret private

The app and the store must belong to the same Shopify organization, which is automatic when you make the app with the store owner's login. If they differ, Shopify refuses and Techvea shows you a message saying so. The secret works like a password: paste it only into your Techvea dashboard.

Shopify's screens change from time to time. The details that matter are the two read scopes, installing the app on your store, and copying the Client ID and secret.

Step 2. Paste them into Techvea

  1. In your dashboard, open your bot and go to Actions. Find the Shopify card.
  2. Enter your store address (your-store.myshopify.com), the Client ID and the Client secret, and press Save Shopify.
  3. Techvea checks the connection with Shopify before saving. If something is wrong you get a plain message, such as a wrong secret or missing read access. The card also has a Test connection button you can press any time.

Step 3. Try it

In the bot's Test chat, ask “Where is my order #1001? My email is the one on the order” (use a real order and its email), then try a wrong email, which must be refused. Ask “Do you have <a product> in stock?” to check stock.

Good to know

  • Shopify gives our server a short-lived access token (about 24 hours) and we renew it automatically, so you never handle tokens.
  • Since 1 January 2026 Shopify no longer lets merchants create the older permanent “shpat_…” token. If you already have one, you can still paste it under “Have an older store with a permanent Admin API token?” on the same card.
  • Very old orders may need extra access (read_all_orders) that Shopify grants only after a request.
